In 2012, Julian retired from Georgia Piedmont Technical College after a 43-year career. During the course of his tenure, Julian taught for 15 years and served in several other capacities, including chair of the CIS department. Julian moved to the dean's office in 1989, where he began as dean of evening programs and also served as dean of other disciplines at the college before retiring in 2012 as dean of academic operations.

In his spare time, Julian also serves on the board of the Families of Children Under Stress Foundation. He volunteers regularly at his church and is an avid lover of music and drama.
