Business Email Compromise (BEC) attacks have grown significantly in 2020 and are showing no signs of slowing. They will likely continue to grow in their frequency and amounts. I predict we will see a continuation of both Covid-19 and political campaign and action pushes as themes. It will require additional efforts to educate the public and support their adding controls

“Ransomware will continue to plague businesses and become more of a common threat that everyone in the channel will need to address in some way. We (Alvaka) have done remediation work for a nearly constant flow of new clients this past two years, including two medium-sized companies we are supporting through the holidays. On average, in late 2019 and all of 2020, the damage is more severe, the ransoms much larger and extortion is pretty regular. Small, medium, and large companies are suffering crippling attacks. We are seeing the splintering of the biggest threat actors only to see them come back like a hydra as multiple new groups. We can only guess how many new ransomware attacks will leverage the SolarWinds Orion and FireEye vulnerabilities

To stimulate activity in all three areas, CompTIA has launched the Cybersecurity Advisory Council, a new collective of thought leaders and seasoned cyber executives, all working together to help educate vendors, solution providers, MSPs and other tech companies on the latest best practices and protocols for business.
